hey JNI i have one thing to say to you my wi fi died on me and i had to move to a new house but now i have my wi fi back so now i can give feed back and can,t wait for update 5

I made a SUPER HARD gauntlet/challenge map about a month ago and figured I would share it again :) If you haven't seen it yet, check it out! Not impossible, but incredibly tough!


you should be able to pick how to swing your weapons because weapons such as the spear swing instead of stab sometimes and if you wanted to do a sideways attack with a sword you could do that.

Yep. There will be a new fighting system, but there are many other things to do first.

Combat is lackluster, you hit an enemy, nothing to it, you dont parry, you dont dodge, you just hit or dont. That doesnt make for very exhilirating combat, enemies will also just stand 50 metres away while you bombard them with arrows, why dont they walk toward you? This game needs a lot of work before its fun

Thanks for your feedback. I'm not happy with the current combat system, too, but I will improve it.

What happened to the campaign?

I removed it in the last update, because it was a bit old. There will be level bundles toplay a new campaign.

[At the moment level bundles aren't working on MacOS -> Fix in the next update]

I don't have much time at the moment, because I'm in the last 2 weeks of high school. After that, I will have much more time.


High school?! a solo dev in high school made a game this good?! You are my hero man! I really want to learn to code but I have no idea where to start. im currently going to community college and coding classes are down the line but i can't wait that long. Do you have any idea how I can get started?

The best way to learn coding is to just start. Create small projects with some topics you are intersted in. You can use google, there are many people who shared their code for many different type of projects. You can start to use only their code and try to understand it. Google every keywords, syntax,... you don't know and comment the lines of the code to understand it.

After that, you will have to try to modify others code or you can write your own small programs with code snippets from the internet.

Forums like stackoverflow are very useful to learn programming, because you will find many code snippets of experienced programmers and questions from learning coders.

There will be one day that all the code makes sense (at least I made that experience). Now you can write more and more your own code. Everytime you don't know a solution, you can use the internet, but don't be to lazy, try to find your own solution by thinking logical step by step first.

One last important advice: Don't copy and paste others code! Copy their code by writing it yourself. This will help you to learn the syntax and error messages from the console.

The rest is more experience. If you stuck with a problem, you will always find a solution, just be patient. You will learn more and more, also concepts like oop or component based coding, but you have to learn and UNDERSTAND the basics first.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

You need to add stairs to the building because ranged weapons and catapults are the only way in.

Maybe I could add it, but there are some other important things to do first.

Side note: spears are useless. I'ts end is simply too small and i'ts too hard to get the exact distance required to kill somebody by swinging. Plus the idea of a spear (and a spear wall) is that your opponent can't get to you without impaling himself. It would be cool if the player had very similiar mechanics to the bots (for example: you could damage enemies by simply walking into them with a weapon)

Side note 2.0: Horses are useless. Any short weapon is too short to damage enemies standing under you. Plus they just die in one hit from anything, so they're even more useless for the player.

Besides that i have no side notes. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for your feedback/suggestions. There was this behaviour that weapons would always kill, even if you haven't attacked, but many people didn't like that behaviour... The horses will need some serious balancing, but I will find a solution.

Some ideas I think would be cool additions to the game :D

Placeable Spawners that spawn certain amounts of troops over intervals of time, but cannot exceed a maximum count of active units already spawned by it. The troops that spawn, the amount of time needed to spawn them, and the maximum amount of active units from each Spawner can be customized by the Player in custom battles. This could result in longer battles and can be used for creating separate waves of attacking units, reinforcements for when battles get difficult, a constant force of attackers and other miscellaneous purposes that the Player can create.

More Randomness in the Random Battle gamemode. At the moment it always follows the same algorithm when generating a random battle(outnumber the player and its forces). Also, the objective of EVERY random battle is to reach the end point. perhaps an intense King VS King battle or a Deathmatch massacre randomly decided by the game?

Custom Units for Custom Battle. Perhaps the player wants to lead an army of pitchfork-wielding Vikings with ight armor, or a squad of unarmored fire swordsmen? The Player would be able to create and save their own combinations of equipment for NPC units, which would inspire further creativity in battle!

Thanks for your great suggestions. I will create a public todo list to give the community a bit more insight into the future of the game. At the moment I'm not developing the game, but I will continue it in a few days.

Thanks for reading them! I'll keep trying to catch pesky bugs/glitches in the stable and experimental builds of the game. Also, I hope you graduate this year. High school can be rough. :)

JNI will create a modern spinoff of Ancient Warfare. Once Ancient Warfare 2 is finished, he'll begin working on it, and trust me, there will be a lot of guns. Goblins and Dragons sound awesome though!

Idea: Downloadable player-made levels and bundles. Sharing and playing epic battles made by other players would be awesome!

I already said this many times, as long as the game is free, I can't buy the required server space.

The game opens for me, shows the title screen then just stays blurred and nothing happens. Can anybody help me?

I was wondering how you shoot farther with siege weapons like the bots do. And also it says extra large terrain could only be used for an ocean map. Has that map come out yet and i'm stupid enough not to find it? If it is out, how do I find it?

It's not released yet and the extra large terrain will only be available on direct x11+ gpus.

I know there is an issue with the level bubdles on mac, which will be fixed in the next update in a few days.

Hello developer.I suggest you to increase the Katana and other weapons damage .Katana damage is 95 because 95 is too low.Why sword has more damage than Katana (100 and 95).Katana has curved blade making it more deadlier,but the sword has straight blade.But there's more,wood stick and farmer's pitchfork (30 and 25) what???Wood stick is blunt pitchfork is sharp,that's weird! Why you add wood stick damage 5 points higher than pitchfork?

Hi, thanks for your feedback. I willddo some balancing when I have time for it. There is just one thing that you should know: Weapons like the katana and the sword will kill with one hit if they will hit a bodypart. They will only cause damage if they hit the armor.So, I think that a sword will deal more damage than a light katana if it hits armor, you know?

Hmmmm,did you mean Katana hits bodypart does more damage than hitting armor?

Yes, because every sharp weapon will cut the bodypart, which will cause the death of the enemy.

Oh,I know that.So Katana and other melee weapons will take less damage to armor?.

Yes. That should be damage / 2.

I defeat three more lords from the level bundle! The levels are getting very hard and i ended cheesing every second one, but i'm still loving the levels! :)

I have linux mint rebecca,how to start the game? I click the 2 file (x86 and x86_64) i can change only the screen but the game not run :(

Can you send me the output_log.txt, which is in the AncientWarfare2_Data directory. I would also like to know which version number your os has.

Ok, it looks like as if your os is not supported. I will do some research. Maybe it will work after the next update, because I updated the engine.

I found some bugs wile messing around in custom battle:

You can place infinite kings of any color.

Rolling logs can't be placed.

All ground traps can be infinitely overlapped.

those aren't bugs....you might have to be in king vs king mode for you not to spawn a million kings (as it says when you click on the king thing to place one down that it will act as a normal unit without king vs king)

the rolling logs can be placed,you just have to click in the right spot

the ground traps are like units and I'm pretty sure you can stack units too

so really none of these are bugs.

what are the full controlls?

You can see them in the settings... In addition there is WASD for movement and right mouse to look around in spectate mode.

i have a problem when i open the game it brings me to the main menu but i cant click anything please tell me what to do sorry if this wastes your time mr. game dev i love your game!

Make sure that you have extracted the game. Otherwise I would suggest to redownload it.

For some reason when I have lots of hand cannons fighting against each other they either wont stop walking and never shoot at each other, or the walk past each other and shoot each other, then continue to walk, and so on. Also what's the difference between a camel and a horse, because they seem to act very similar.

I will test the hand cannons problem. Camels have more health and their riders have more attack range than horse riders.

So in custom battle editor, I click save, and the folder browser pop up. And if I click any sub folder inside, It does not respond. So I can not save anything.

I have a few suggestions for water:

crocodile (doesnt do a lot of damage per bite,but its special thing is what makes it good:trapjaw (bites very very very fast))

alligator (not as strong as the crocodile,but it is much faster then it.it also has trapjaw)

Gator King (stronger then the crocodile,but is slower then it.it has super trapjaw (it bites faster then regular trapjaw by a lot)and it has another special thing:king of gators (spawns alligators and crocodiles every few seconds)

look at the title of the game...ANCIENT warfare 2 not modern warfare 2.there will be a modern spin-off though.

One more question: In the future will there be an in game thing where you could post custom battle levels for others to play?

As long as the game is free, I can't pay the required server space. If I find a solution to get enough server space, I will immediately add this feature.
